Life is a beautiful, complex and wonderful thing. Life for people who are Deafblind should be no different. To deliver on this vision and help us enable independence and enrich lives, Deafblind Community Services (DBCS) is inviting applications to our board of directors and standing committees for 2024.

Deafblind Community Services continues to be one of Canada's leading providers of specialized support and emergency services for people who are Deafblind living in Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Our intervenor services and literacy programs enable people who are Deafblind to maximize their independence and engagement with the world around them.

Recently, we initiated our services in British Columbia which represented a monumental step for Canada’s Deafblind community. Now, as we look toward the future, we are laying the groundwork to one day expand our services to communities across the country, all while leading the development of global professional intervenor standards – helping to secure a better future for the Deafblind community.

If you are an influential community or business leader who is passionate about this mission and want to play a critical role in supporting the Deafblind Community, we want to hear from you. We are looking for board members and potential committee members for the Audit & Finance Committee and Service Quality Committee who have lived experience as a Deafblind individual or family member, a finance background (CA, CGA, CMA), and individuals from British Columbia and Nova Scotia. The ideal board and committee member:

  • champions DBCS’s mission and values: to enrich lives and enable independence
  • is an advocate for the rights of all Canadians who are Deafblind
  • is an enthusiastic ambassador for the organization and our mission
  • has a personal connection and/or a commitment to the success of Deafblind Community Services, and the Canadians that we serve

Please contact Melissa Kirby to express your interest. Deafblind Community Services is committed to equity and diversity based on merit, transparency, accessibility, and inclusion ensuring that all candidates are given a fair opportunity. We look forward to exploring your candidacy. Applications close March 21, 2024.
